been quilting off and on much of her life after being taught by
her Grandmother. She started teaching quilt classes in 1981 in
her home studio and has taught, judged and appraised around the

This project led Eddie to appraising quilts. After training she
appraised quilts on behalf of the Illinois Project. When she
started appraising, that became her focus, reading, taking
classes, working with other appraisers to educated herself. The
American Quilters Society certified her as an Appraiser of
Quilted Textiles in 1990.
Edie has been very involved in the organizational part of
quilting, having served on boards and founded many of the
following groups: Decatur, IL, Quilters Guild; Land of Lincoln
Quilters Association; Illinois Quilt Research Project; National
Quilting Association; Professional Assoc. of Appraisers-Quilters
Textiles; Calico Cut-up Quilters, Bella Vista, AR; Grand Lake O'
The Cherokees Quilters, Grove, OK; American Quilt Study Group

Each of these areas will be discussed as well as the route to
certification.

discussed. The focus of the quilts may be your choice - Memory
Quilts, Antique Quilts, Varied Technique Quilts, and Block
Exchange/Fabric Exchange Quits.

Lectures:
Those Funky Princess Feather Quilts: A couple of years
ago I started collecting Princess Feather quilts. Not the
pristine ones that we think of but ones that are 'funky',
takeoffs on the Princess Feather. I have had patterns drafted
and friends are making replicas of these quilts, so the
originals as well as the replicas will be presented. A very
interesting and entertaining lecture.
Should I Quilt That Old Top or Blocks?: Advise so to
whether nor not to quilt an old top or blocks. If it is okay to
quilt it, some suggestions on how and what to use will be
offered. If it is not okay to quilt, how to preserve and yet
use.

Libby Wallis
Libby has lectured at several quilt guilds
throughout the four state area. Libby’s passion is collecting
vintage quilts and then researching their history to let them
“talk”. Her most extensive research as been done on an album
quilt dating from the late 1880’s, documenting the lives of four
generations of women who migrated from South Carolina to Kansas
and the family’s struggle to live in a “free state”. Several of
Libby’s quilts may be seen in Kansas City Star’s Star Quilts and
Star Quilts II books. |

A Quilt Collector’s Trunk Show -
Approximately 25 vintage quilts from Libby’s collection will be
shown as she provides information about the origins of the quilt
patterns and how to decorate with quilts.
If Quilts Could Talk! - Have you ever seen a signature
quilt and wondered who the women were? Libby wondered when she
purchased an Album Block quilt with embroidered blocks. Libby
will guide you through the thrill of discovery she experienced
as she pieced together the history of four generations of the
Miller family, abolitionists who migrated from South Carolina to
settle in Free State Kansas.
Fabric Postcards
Finishing Your Quilt - Hanging Sleeves and Quilt Labels -
Everyone has a quilt story; a special memory, a special quilt,
or what remains of one. Libby can help you preserve your quilt’s
history with the following services:
Quilt Display ~ Quilts are meant to be seen, not stored
away for the next generation. Libby can add a hanging sleeve to
your quilt so that it can be hung on the wall for display.
Quilt Labels ~ preserve what is known about your quilt
for future generations. Libby will document information known
about your quilt on a fabric label sewn onto the back of your
quilt.
Quilt Identification ~ Libby will research your quilt,
identify the pattern name and probable sources of the pattern
and prepare an archival quality document for your records.
Quilt Restoration ~ Does your special quilt need some
TLC? Libby will consult with you concerning various alternatives
to preserve, restore, or recreate your quilt or quilt fragment.
